Alicia Gardner, Trainee Solicitor - Day in the life of

Hi, my name's Alicia and I'm a trainee solicitor in the Dispute Resolution Department.

The work in dispute resolution is really varied because the team covers a range of areas. In any one day, I could be drafting advice on an insolvency matter, looking at titles in a property dispute, and sourcing experts in a personal injury case.

There's also opportunities to attend court and sit with the barrister, which is really interesting and I get to be involved in all aspects of a case.

Being based in the legal hub of Southampton, there's plenty of opportunities for networking, even as a trainee. There's events throughout the year put on by junior lawyers and young professionals across the region, and events that I've been a part of include a day at the races, quiz nights, and dinners, so there's really something for everyone.

We meet regularly with our training partner to have a really open chat about how we're getting on and our career aspirations and which seats we'd like to try. So regardless of which team we're in, there's that consistent guidance and support.

I really enjoy being a part of the teams that I work in and I often find myself going out for lunch with some colleagues at one of the many great places we have to eat and drink on our doorstep being at the heart of Southampton and Winchester.
